As the kids get older, the toys become more expensive – and breakable.
Because I was getting sick and tired of hearing “oh, man, my ipad only has 7% battery left” and “where is my charger?” and “can you charge my phone?”, I decided to put together a tech charging area for the whole house to use.
We have a small desk in the kitchen that is the perfect spot.
This is where we have a desktop computer, the charging area, and behind the desk is command central with calendars and papers.
I found this “mail sorter” at Home Goods. As you can see, it has just the right slots for iPad, mini iPads, and phones in the front.
I have a six prong outlet plugged in, just sitting behind the unit.
This way it is really easy to unplug the chargers when we go out of town.
Binder clips on the edges keep all the wires from turning into spaghetti and falling behind the sorter.
So our house rules for electronic devices is:
You are responsible for charging your own device – or one you are hoping to play on the following day. If the device is out of charge, too bad. You will just have to wait.
All devices go to the charging area every night. This is where they sleep. No iPads or phones in the bedrooms (at least for now).
I do give everyone a reminder at bedtime about their devices, but most of the time they are in the right spot.
Everything is together, I know where they are, the kids know where they are, and they get charged every night.
Do you have a tech area in your house? How do you organize your family’s devices?
